Active Care Group

Rollout of a major healthcare brand

The Client

Active Care Group provides expert care for people with mental illness, learning disabilities and brain injuries. Launched in 1990, they now care for over 700 patients and residents at 22 specialist hospitals and centres across the UK.

The Brief

Active Care Group were looking for a new agency to bring some fresh design ideas and implement their new branding across documentation for internal and external use.


They wanted us to create a number of different design projects in a variety of media alongside their marketing team. They were struggling with their current agency but were concerned about the risk of migrating to a new one.

I inherited an agency from my predecessor; they were based in London and were becoming expensive, they were also getting a bit stale, I wanted something fresher—and also closer to where I’m based, so I could have face to face meetings.


I loved their website straight away—and the way they’ve branded themselves. Later when we met, I really liked them and felt that we were like-minded, which is very important with a creative agency.

The Challenge

The main challenge was to work on a number of different projects at the same time with a quick turnaround. The sign-off process is usually fairly long due to the number of client-side stakeholders involved so there was a need to stay agile in order to complete amends stages on short notice.

The Solution

After the initial test project we were able to create brochures, animation, exhibition stands and animations in partnership with the marketing team. Due to the size and flexibility of our team, we were able to respond to their needs in a timely manner and meet all their requirements. 


We now work regularly with Active Care Group on design jobs, including printed materials such as brochures and animations.

What happens in our work is nobody thinks about marketing until there’s an event and then suddenly they think, ‘Oh, we need a brochure really quickly!’ The first job the team did for us was a real challenge for them because we needed icons for some quite obscure services, we struggled to make decisions and changed some of the services half-way through.


But the team was patient and reactive throughout. In fact, I liked what I saw so much that I asked them to do a refresh of our whole brand.

The Verdict

They are fast turnaround, very quick at responding and getting artwork back to us. And the quality is always excellent. I don’t think we’ve really ever thought no, we don’t like it, that needs to be changed.”
